New Delhi, Oct 10: Law enforcement personnel implemented sweeping preventive measures across New Delhi on Saturday, detaining prominent political leaders and civil society activists during large-scale demonstrations aimed at the Election Commission.

Among those taken into custody were West Delhi and national opposition figures including Arvind Kejriwal, former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Pinarayi Vijayan, alongside activists Yogendra Yadav, Prashant Bhushan, and student leader Neha Bora.

Security officials redirected or held key figures at various points across the city, including outside private residences and temporary holding facilities such as Chhatrasal Stadium, as barricades prevented crowds from reaching the primary demonstration site at Jantar Mantar.

The capital experienced extensive security operations involving thousands of police and paramilitary personnel stationed at critical transit hubs and intersection points.

Administrative authorities imposed widespread restrictions across the urban transportation network, including entry and exit limitations at dozens of metro stations and temporary rail cancellations.

Following initial dispersals near central assembly points, groups attempting to regroup at secondary gathering spots were swiftly met with law enforcement interventions. Officials confirmed that thousands of individuals were detained throughout the day as part of coordinated citywide efforts to maintain public order.
