CHANDIGARH, May 3: — As the city prepares for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) – UG on Sunday, Chandigarh police have rolled out heightened security arrangements to ensure the smooth and fair conduct of the high-stakes medical entrance exam.
Around 300 police personnel will be deployed across the 10 designated examination centres, with round-the-clock surveillance planned both inside and outside the venues.
“Each centre will have dedicated security teams. The focus will be on crowd management, prevention of impersonation, and curbing any attempts at cheating,” a senior police officer said.
In response to past controversies—including the 2024 exam that drew scrutiny over alleged paper leaks and an unusually high number of perfect scores—strict protocols have been introduced.
All candidates will undergo mandatory frisking by male and female staff before entering the examination halls. Items such as mobile phones, smartwatches, hidden notes, and electronic devices are strictly prohibited.
Biometric attendance will be used to verify the identity of each candidate. Fingerprint scans and on-the-spot photographs will be captured at entry points to prevent impersonation.
Mobile phones and electronic communication devices will also be barred for invigilators and staff. Only authorised personnel will be allowed controlled access to communication tools under strict monitoring.
“Security teams have been instructed to maintain vigilance throughout the day, especially during candidate entry and exit. Traffic movement around centres will also be managed to avoid congestion,” the officer added.
With thousands of students expected to appear in Chandigarh alone, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has also launched a reporting platform for suspicious activities related to NEET-UG 2025. The agency has urged candidates and the public to remain alert to frauds offering leaked papers or impersonation services.
