Meerut, December 20, 2024: A stampede-like situation broke out on the final day of a religious event led by spiritual leader Pradeep Mishra at Shatabdi Nagar, leaving several women with minor injuries.

The event, centered on the recitation of the Shiva Maha Purana, drew an overwhelming crowd. Organizers estimated daily attendance at 1.5 lakh, but the number surged to 2.5 lakh on the concluding day.

According to reports, the pandal inside the venue was packed to capacity, while thousands gathered outside, creating chaos as they jostled for space.

Eyewitnesses described the scene as tense, with many devotees struggling amid overcrowding. A significant number of those gathered outside were women, some of whom sustained minor injuries during the commotion.

Organizers denied reports of a stampede, clarifying that the pandal remained orderly, but admitted challenges in managing the massive crowd outside. “There was no stampede, but a large number of devotees gathered outside, which created difficulty in arrangements. Some women fell during the rush, but efforts are being made to ensure everyone’s safety,” they stated.

The Meerut Police are monitoring the situation closely. Barricades were set up at several points to control the flow of devotees, especially on this final day of the event. Security and crowd management measures continue at the scene to prevent further mishaps.
