CHB Serves Fresh Eviction Notices to 13 More Defaulters

Chandigarh, June 7 — The Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) has issued eviction notices to 13 additional allottees under the Small Flats Scheme-2006 for failing to pay the mandatory licence fee, taking the total number of recent notices to over 130.

The board said the affected allottees had defaulted on monthly payments, with outstanding dues in each case crossing Rs 1 lakh. “The allotments were earlier cancelled due to non-payment. These occupants are now considered unauthorized and have been directed to vacate their flats within one month,” a CHB official said.

The CHB has warned that failure to comply within the stipulated time will lead to forcible eviction. The latest batch of 13 notices comes after 60 previous allottees were similarly directed to vacate their premises last month.

The drive began on May 19, and notices have so far been served to 16 allottees in Sector 38-West, 13 in Sector 56, 11 in Sector 49, 15 in Ram Darbar, 17 in Dhanas, and one in Maloya.

The board had built nearly 20,000 flats across Chandigarh under the Small Flats Scheme-2006, which aimed to provide affordable housing to families formerly living in slum colonies. According to the scheme’s terms, each allottee is required to pay a monthly rent of Rs 800.

However, officials say a large number of residents have defaulted for years. “In many cases, the dues have accumulated to over Rs 2 lakh. Despite repeated reminders and warnings, payments have not been made,” said the official.

The CHB’s enforcement move is part of a broader effort to ensure compliance and reclaim units that have effectively been occupied without legal rights. The board is expected to continue issuing more such notices in the coming weeks.
