CHANDIGARH, Oct 29 — Punjab Cabinet Minister Harpal Singh Cheema launched a sharp political attack on the Shiromani Akali Dal and the BJP following a 40,000-page supplementary chargesheet filed by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau against senior Akali leader Bikram Singh Majithia. Addressing a press conference, Cheema stated that the investigation uncovers illegal transactions worth ₹736.96 crore routed through a corporate network, characterizing the 2007–2017 Akali-BJP tenure as Punjab’s darkest era due to the widespread devastation of youth by the drug trade.
Detailing the probe findings from FIR No. 22 registered in June 2025 under the Prevention of Corruption Act, the Minister maintained that the Vigilance Bureau traced complex financial movements across several entities, including Saraya Industries, Peregrine Saraya Organics, and S.D. Beverages. He asserted that the financial investigation uncovered ₹170.39 crore in excess cash deposits, ₹176.56 crore in undue foreign benefits, ₹194.62 crore in unexplained growth, and ₹50.81 crore in unaccounted funds.
Targeting the opposition, Cheema raised concerns over the political convergence of BJP leadership and Akali figures, pointing to recurring high-volume heroin seizures at Gujarat ports as evidence of persistent interstate smuggling routes. He declared that the state government under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann will not permit drug syndicates to re-establish themselves in the region.
Concluding his address, Cheema highlighted the ongoing ‘Yudh Nashean Virudh’ campaign, affirming that over 80,000 arrests have been executed since March 2022 to dismantle supply networks while providing medical rehabilitation to affected individuals. He maintained that the extensive chargesheet now places the complete evidentiary trail before the judiciary to ensure legal accountability.
