Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann requested Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria to grant a 10-day parole to Jagtar Singh Hawara to enable him to visit his ill mother. In a formal communication sent from Chandigarh, the Chief Minister affirmed that the request is based entirely on compassionate considerations due to the severe health condition of the elderly mother.

The Chief Minister declared that age-related complications have led to a noticeable decline in the health of Hawara’s mother, creating concern for the family. He maintained that granting temporary release during this period is essential on compassionate grounds so that Hawara can meet his mother.

Addressing the legal context, the Chief Minister noted that Hawara had previously approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court through a petition seeking directions for parole. The court subsequently directed that the parole application be given due consideration by the relevant authorities.

The Chief Minister asserted that the administration recommends granting the 10-day period at the earliest possible date. He maintained that the deteriorating health status of Hawara’s mother justifies swift action on the pending application.
