Riyadh, OCT 1: A diplomatic event in Riyadh featured an unexpected cultural showcase as Chinese-manufactured humanoid robots performed the Saudi Ardah, a traditional group sword dance, during a formal reception hosted by the Chinese Embassy. Dressed in traditional thobes and ghutras, the robots moved in synchronized formation to rhythmic drumbeats, raising and lowering ceremonial swords before an audience of over 600 dignitaries, including Riyadh Region Mayor Prince Faisal bin Abdulaziz bin Ayyaf and Chinese Ambassador Chang Hua.

The diplomatic gathering was organized to celebrate the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. Following the event, Ambassador Chang Hua shared video clips of the performance on social media, praising the technological display and noting that the synchronized demonstration left a memorable impression on attending guests.

The Saudi Ardah, recognized on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, is a celebrated folk dance performed during national celebrations and major ceremonial occasions. The integration of humanoid robotics into the traditional performance drew widespread attention online, with observers highlighting the blend of Chinese technological innovation and Saudi cultural traditions.
