CHANDIGARH, OCT 1: Goods and Services Tax revenue growth for Chandigarh slowed to 4 per cent year-on-year in September 2026, with total collections reaching Rs 238 crore compared to Rs 229 crore during the corresponding period last year. Official figures from the Union Ministry of Finance show a continued quarterly deceleration in monthly growth rates, following a 12 per cent rise in July and an 8 per cent increase in August.

The Union Territory’s growth rate lagged behind the national domestic average of 10.1 per cent for the month. Within the regional economic footprint, Chandigarh trailed both Punjab, which posted an 18 per cent collection surge, and Delhi, which recorded a 12 per cent expansion.

However, Chandigarh marginally outpaced neighbouring Haryana, where monthly GST collection growth fell to 2 per cent for the same period. Financial analysts noted that the ongoing trend reflects broader shifts in regional consumption patterns and economic activity across northern commercial hubs.
