Clear Skies Expected in Himachal

Shimla, May 12 — The weather across Himachal Pradesh is expected to stabilize from Tuesday, with largely dry conditions forecast for the plains, and the low and mid hills from May 13 to May 16, according to the latest weather reports.

However, isolated rainfall and snowfall may continue over the higher reaches of the state during the same period.

In a significant deviation from earlier heat wave predictions, the state has experienced 29 percent above-normal rainfall in the first 11 days of May.

“The widespread precipitation has kept maximum temperatures below normal in most areas,” a weather official said, attributing the cool spell to recurring rains, thunderstorms, and occasional hailstorms.

Districts including Sirmaur, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, and Solan have recorded exceptionally high precipitation — over 250 percent more than the average.

Meanwhile, only Kinnaur, Kullu, and Lahaul and Spiti have received less than normal rainfall so far this month.

Earlier forecasts had suggested that May would see more-than-usual heat wave days across much of the low hills, plains, and adjoining mid-hill regions, with near-normal heat wave activity expected elsewhere in the state.

The mean maximum temperatures were also projected to remain above normal.

“So far, the frequent weather disturbances have kept temperatures in check,” the official added.

“The coming dry spell may bring some rise, but a major heat surge seems unlikely in the immediate future.”
