CHANDIGARH, July 12— After a rainy week, the city is likely to experience a dry and partly cloudy weekend, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Friday. Though showers have paused, the forecast indicates a return of rain early next week.
Temperatures have begun to climb following a break in rainfall. The maximum temperature rose sharply from 30.8°C on Thursday to 34.9°C on Friday, a degree above the seasonal normal. The minimum also increased slightly, from 24.3°C to 25.7°C — still a notch below average.
Over the next three days, IMD has predicted that daytime temperatures will hover between 33°C and 34°C, while nighttime lows will range between 26°C and 27°C.
“The monsoon trough has shifted southward and is currently passing over Bikaner,” an IMD official said, adding that this displacement is reducing the likelihood of rain over Chandigarh and the surrounding region. However, the official noted that light showers may still occur intermittently due to high humidity levels.
Residents are advised to expect warm, humid days with only brief cloud cover through the weekend.
