Hoshiarpur, April 7: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Tuesday launched a major infrastructure push in Hoshiarpur, announcing projects worth ₹516 crore focused on healthcare and road connectivity. The centerpiece of the initiative is the Shaheed Udham Singh State Institute of Medical Sciences, a ₹268 crore facility expected to be completed within two years.
The Chief Minister stated that the new medical institute will train 100 MBBS students annually and include a 300-bed hospital equipped with modern diagnostic tools such as MRI and CT scans. “Our government is fully committed to delivering world-class healthcare facilities near people’s homes,” CM Mann affirmed. In addition to the medical college, the Chief Minister laid the foundation stone for a 30-bed Community Health Centre in Sham Chaurasi, designed to serve over 40 villages with advanced maternal care and surgical facilities.
The development package also includes the ₹99 crore Balachaur–Garhshankar–Hoshiarpur–Dasuya road project. This 105-km corridor is intended to streamline travel between Chandigarh, Pathankot, and Jammu & Kashmir. CM Mann noted that the improved infrastructure would significantly benefit pilgrims traveling to holy sites such as Anandpur Sahib and Mata Naina Devi, while also reducing the overall travel distance between Jammu and Delhi.
Addressing a state-level gathering, the Chief Minister maintained that his administration has prioritized “holistic development” over the regressive policies of previous regimes. He asserted that for the first time, the state government is translating a “People’s Manifesto” into reality through tangible works in education and health. He also highlighted the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna, stating that over 30 lakh families have already received health cards for free treatment up to ₹10 lakh.
