Chandigarh, 24 Nov. 24: Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini is set to inaugurate the Surya Nagar Railway Over Bridge and Underpass on Monday, despite ongoing work on street light poles and pits, which officials claim will be completed by Sunday evening.
Construction on the ₹79-crore project began in February 2019, with the deadline extended five times. Spanning 1,200 meters, the overbridge is the city’s longest, complemented by two underpasses to enhance connectivity.
Currently, the overbridge remains closed to vehicles due to maintenance and streetlight installation.
Traffic is being diverted through the underpasses. The closure followed an accident on Saturday when a speeding vehicle injured a laborer on the overbridge, prompting safety measures.
