Cold Wave Intenfies Amid Dense Fog

Mohali, 5 January: The new year brings an intensifying cold wave, marked by dense fog and plunging temperatures in several regions. Over the past week, weather changes have brought smog-like conditions, with limited sunshine during the day and dense fog dominating evenings. Experts predict worsening cold in the coming days.

Life has slowed under dropping temperatures, and dry weather is expected for 4-5 days. The weather department forecasts snowfall in the hills, potentially further cooling the plains. Strong winds have exacerbated cold conditions in Punjab’s plains bordering Himachal Pradesh, with a noticeable chill even during afternoons.

Clouds and cold winds across many districts, including Jalandhar, led to a significant drop in maximum and minimum temperatures. Jalandhar’s maximum temperature dipped to 15°C yesterday, down 1°C from the seasonal average.

The meteorological department issued a warning for intensified cold and dense fog over the next two days, predicting brief sunny intervals alongside cloud cover.
