Chandigarh, April 1: Family members of Colonel Pushpinder Singh Bath met Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Monday, seeking the transfer of Patiala SSP Nanak Singh and a CBI probe into the assault on the Army officer and his son by police personnel.
The meeting at the CM’s official residence in Chandigarh followed the family’s discussion with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi a day earlier, where they rejected a probe by a three-member special investigation team (SIT) formed by the state police.
Jaswinder Kaur Bath, the officer’s wife, said the CM assured them of action by the evening. “He told me I was Punjab’s daughter and that such an incident should not have happened to anyone,” she said, adding that Mann had called a meeting of senior officers and promised a decision by 6 p.m.
The family, accompanied by Patiala BJP leader and relative Gurtej Singh Dhillon, reiterated their demand for a central agency probe. Colonel Bath, currently posted at the Army headquarters in New Delhi, was treated at a Military Hospital for multiple injuries.
Meanwhile, the SIT, led by Additional DGP AS Rai, visited the alleged crime scene in Patiala. Rai stated that CCTV footage had been sent to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory and urged anyone with evidence to meet the SIT at Circuit House, Patiala, on April 2. “The investigation will be fact-based and without bias,” he said.
Following the incident, 12 police officers were suspended.
