New Delhi, Chandigarh, December 19 – Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and MP Rahul Gandhi accused the BJP of insulting Dr. BR Ambedkar and Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru during a press conference following uproar in the Rajya Sabha.
The party demanded an apology and resignation from Union Home Minister Amit Shah, citing his alleged misrepresentation of facts during a debate on the Constitution.
Kharge criticized Shah’s remarks, stating, “The statements by the Prime Minister and Amit Shah about Dr. BR Ambedkar are deeply saddening. Facts must be considered before commenting on Ambedkar and Nehru.”
He further accused the BJP of spreading falsehoods and disrespecting the nation’s founding leaders.
The Congress also condemned what it described as hostile behavior by BJP MPs, alleging physical intimidation during a peaceful protest.
“We were protesting peacefully, but BJP MPs pushed us. Even women MPs were not spared,” Kharge claimed, announcing nationwide protests in response.
Rahul Gandhi echoed these sentiments, asserting that Babasaheb Ambedkar had been disrespected. He demanded Shah’s apology and immediate resignation from the Union Cabinet.
