REWARI, October 13 — Congress workers, led by former MLA and AICC secretary Chiranjeev Rao, staged a protest march in Rewari on Monday demanding a high court-monitored inquiry into the suicide of senior IPS officer Y Puran Kumar. The march also saw participation from social organisations and members of Scheduled Castes (SCs).

The protest began at Rajiv Chowk and concluded at the mini secretariat, where the participants submitted a memorandum addressed to the President of India to the Rewari Deputy Commissioner. Protesters raised slogans such as “Justice for Y Puran Kumar” and “Stop atrocities on Dalits.”

Speaking at the event, Chiranjeev Rao highlighted the gravity of recent incidents targeting SCs, saying they are a matter of national concern. “On one hand, this case has shaken the administrative system; on the other, the incident of a shoe being thrown at the Chief Justice of India inside the courtroom reflects the deteriorating state of democracy and the justice system in the country,” he said.

Rao added that the safety of the Chief Justice inside the courtroom and the suicide of a senior IPS officer due to pressure, harassment, and caste-based discrimination are “dangerous signs for Indian democracy.” He urged that the case be investigated under the supervision of the high court, the demands of the officer’s family be fully respected, and immediate measures be taken to curb atrocities against Dalits.

Prominent leaders at the protest included District Congress Committee (Urban) president Praveen Chaudhary, Rural unit president Subhash Chhawni, District Mahila Congress president Seema Dhamija, SC Cell president Ramesh Thekedar, Bharat Singh Bawal, former Sarpanch Charan Singh, and Ishwar Mahalawat.

The demonstration reflects growing public demand for transparency and justice in the case, with Congress leaders emphasizing accountability and protection of marginalized communities.
