Chandigarh, Feb 24: The Congress party organized a formal march to the Haryana Vidhan Sabha in Chandigarh today, raising concerns regarding various alleged scams and administrative issues under the current Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) administration. Led by Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda and state unit president Rao Narender, the legislators reached the Assembly complex carrying placards and voicing their opposition to the state government’s recent decisions.
Following the march, the MLAs held a sit-in on the Assembly premises. The protest saw the participation of prominent figures, including wrestler-turned-politician Vinesh Phogat. During the demonstration, the legislators utilized rattles and slogans to draw attention to their grievances.
The opposition members raised several specific issues, asserting that the state’s education standards have declined and that many eligible citizens have been excluded from the Lado Lakshmi Yojna and the Below Poverty Line (BPL) lists. They further stated that rising unemployment remains a critical concern, alleging that job opportunities are being directed toward individuals from outside the state.
Regarding public safety, the Congress leaders affirmed that law and order in Haryana has seen a significant collapse. They pointed to an increase in extortion calls and noted what they described as “step-motherly” treatment toward the sports sector and local athletes.
The party has declared its intention to continue the demonstrations tomorrow. “The Congress has already announced a gherao of the Haryana Assembly tomorrow to protest changes in MGNREGA,” the leadership stated in a communication regarding their upcoming legislative strategy.
