Chandigarh, March 27 — Three Chandigarh police officers, including District Crime Cell (DCC) inspector Jasminder Singh, were arrested on Wednesday for allegedly harboring two suspects wanted in a ₹5.26-crore ATM heist in Uttar Pradesh (UP).

The crime branch booked the trio—Singh, head constable Satish Kumar, and senior constable Samunder—on charges of criminal conspiracy, destruction of evidence, forgery, and suppressing facts.

The accused officers will be produced in court on Thursday. They were suspended with immediate effect on Tuesday.

The case traces back to March 4, when Gaurav Tomar and Rocky Malik, employees of CMS company, allegedly siphoned off ₹5.26 crore during ATM refilling in Bagpat, UP. Fearing UP Police action, the duo fled to Chandigarh with two friends. There, they sought help from a local man, Munish, who promised to arrange their surrender before Chandigarh Police.

However, according to the FIR, DCC officials, allegedly in connivance with Munish, instead planted firearms on the suspects and registered a case against them at the Sector 39 police station. The UP Police, upon uncovering the alleged conspiracy, alerted senior Chandigarh Police officials, who ordered the officers’ suspension.

“These cops had full knowledge of the suspects’ intentions to evade UP Police but still facilitated their arrest and even directed them to procure firearms locally,” the FIR stated.
