Chandigarh, Oct 22 — Councillor Saurabh Joshi has accused municipal officials of deliberately altering official records of a Finance and Contract Committee (F&CC) meeting held on September 26, calling the act a serious breach of democratic integrity.
Joshi said that during the meeting, a proposal to extend permission for festive stalls in the city until Gurpurab on November 5 had been supported by the mayor and all F&CC members. “The proposal was discussed, passed, and approved unanimously, but shockingly it was omitted from the official minutes,” he said, alleging that the deletion was intentional and carried out by those responsible for recording the proceedings.
“This act not only undermines the sanctity of the democratic process but also reflects the malafide intention of certain officers who appear to place themselves above the General House and F&CC,” Joshi said.
Calling the incident part of a “disturbing pattern” of record manipulation, the councillor claimed this was not the first time such tampering had taken place within the municipal corporation. He noted that the removal of the proposal had affected public initiatives meant to support local traders and city residents during festive celebrations.
Joshi said he would submit a formal complaint to the governor-cum-administrator of UT Chandigarh, seeking an impartial inquiry and disciplinary action against those responsible. He also demanded that the original proposal and its resolution be restored in the official minutes and that safeguards be introduced to prevent any recurrence.
