Chandigarh, Feb 7: A delegation of local resident representatives met with PGIMER administration today to advocate for a healthcare system that prioritizes the people of Chandigarh. The Chandigarh Residents’ Associations Welfare Federation (CRAWFED) presented a series of demands to Deputy Director Pankaj Rai, focusing on resource allocation and the reduction of patient wait times.
Central to the discussion was a proposal to set aside at least 10% of the institute’s rooms and beds exclusively for city dwellers. The federation argued that because PGIMER operates using the city’s essential infrastructure, including its road networks and utility services, the local community deserves a designated share of its medical capacity.
The group also addressed the digital experience for patients, suggesting that those who register online should see a tangible benefit. “The federation also mentioned the need for enhanced facilities for patients who register online, including the deployment of additional doctors and paramedical staff to reduce waiting time,” the delegation stated in their formal communication.
Infrastructure issues outside the hospital walls were also a key part of the meeting. Residents of Sector 11 have reported significant inconvenience due to unauthorized parking and blocked house gates caused by visitors using the nearby hospital entrance. CRAWFED requested that the authorities close this specific gate to restore order to the residential area.
Responding to the memorandum, Pankaj Rai noted that the issues would be discussed in detail within the administration. He assured the representatives that the institute is committed to resolving patient care challenges and will evaluate the suggestions provided by the federation.
