CHANDIGARH, April 6: — A 19-year-old youth, Mandeep Bhargav of Zirakpur, died in a road accident on the Zirakpur-Chandigarh highway near the Airport light point late Friday night after a CTU bus ran over him.
Police said Mandeep and his friend were riding a Honda Activa towards Chandigarh when a speeding goods carrier hit them from behind. The impact threw both riders onto the highway.
Before they could recover, a CTU bus following closely behind ran over Mandeep, who had landed in the middle of the road. He died on the spot from severe head injuries. His friend escaped with minor injuries.
Police reached the scene shortly after the incident, seized the vehicles involved and sent Mandeep’s body for post-mortem.
The drivers—Pawan of the goods carrier and Deepak of the CTU bus—were arrested and later released on bail. Both face charges under Sections 106 (causing death by negligence) and 281 (rash driving) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
