Kanauri/Chandigarh, 22 February 2025 — A crucial meeting between the non-political United Kisan Morcha and the central government is underway in Chandigarh. Union Ministers Piyush Goyal, Prahlad Joshi, and Shivraj Singh Chauhan will represent the government, while around 28 farmer leaders, including Jagjit Singh Dallewal, will participate from the farmers’ side.

The previous meeting between the two sides ended without a resolution.

Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who is on a hunger strike unto death, reiterated that farmers will not settle for a middle ground and will only accept a legal guarantee on Minimum Support Price (MSP).

He stated that the demands of the farmers must be met.

Dallewal, who has been fasting for 89 days, was transported from the Khanauri border to Chandigarh in a private ambulance. Before his departure, prayers were offered by the farmers. Apart from him, 28 farmer leaders have also left for the meeting.

Several farmer leaders from Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (India) will be present, including Sarwan Singh Pandher (Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee Punjab), Jaswinder Singh Longowal (BKU Ekta Azad), Manjit Singh Rai (BKU Doaba), and others from various farmer unions across the country.

Dallewal remains firm on his hunger strike, underscoring that it will continue until the government fulfills the farmers’ demands.
