New Delhi, August 3: A Delhi court on Monday acquitted former Wrestling Federation of India president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and former assistant secretary Vinod Tomar in the sexual harassment case lodged by adult women grapplers. Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Ashwani Panwar pronounced the verdict following the conclusion of trial arguments, bringing an end to criminal proceedings that spanned over three years.
The case originated from complaints filed by athletes in 2023 alleging incidents of misconduct. The allegations led to extended public demonstrations at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, featuring prominent Olympic medalists and international competitors seeking formal legal action.
Expressing relief following the court order, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh declared that he had maintained his innocence throughout the proceedings. He affirmed that the initial stance taken by him regarding the allegations stood validated by the judicial conclusion, describing the verdict as a matter of satisfaction for himself and his well-wishers.
The legal trajectory included the registration of two separate police complaints in April 2023 following Supreme Court intervention. While a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act involving a minor complainant was closed after court approval of a police cancellation report in May 2025, formal charges were framed regarding the adult complainants in May 2024.
The prosecution examined 32 witnesses before completing its arguments earlier this year. The proceedings concluded after defense arguments were finalized in July, leading to Monday’s judgment.
