Chandigarh, 3 January 2025 – Severe cold and dense fog continue to disrupt daily life across Punjab, with visibility significantly reduced and air travel affected. The Amritsar airport has been particularly hit, with no flights landing since 10 PM, forcing several flights to be diverted to Delhi.
According to the weather department, a Western Disturbance is set to become active on January 4, bringing a change in weather. Light rain is expected in Pathankot, Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Tarn Taran, and Hoshiarpur that day. Widespread rainfall is forecast across most of Punjab on January 5 and 6.
Surinder Pal, Director of the Chandigarh Weather Science Centre, noted that the rain will likely extend to parts of Haryana, Chandigarh, and nearby hill-bordering areas on Sunday and Monday. “While the rain may temporarily lower temperatures by 2-3 degrees, overall rainfall and temperature levels are predicted to remain normal for January,” he said.
As cold conditions persist and fog limits visibility, residents are urged to prepare for further disruptions in the coming days as weather patterns shift.
