DHURI, Feb 25: The development of a ₹10.76-crore service road project commenced in the Dhuri Assembly constituency on Tuesday. Officials stated that the initiative is designed to streamline traffic management and bolster urban infrastructure within the segment represented by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.

The project involves the construction of service roads spanning 14.25 km on both sides of a covered drain. Market Committee Chairman Rajwant Singh Ghulli and Punjab Waqf Board member Dr. Anwar Bhasaur formally inaugurated the work, which covers several key stretches including the Sangrur Bypass to Kakrawal Bridge and the area from Walia Studio to the Truck Union.

According to technical specifications, the project will feature a combination of materials, with one side utilizing interlocking tiles and the other a bituminous surface. This development follows a recent ₹54-crore approval from the Union Ministry of Railways for a new railway overbridge (ROB) in the town, a move that resolved a lengthy political standoff over local infrastructure funding.

Officials affirmed that total development works valued at approximately ₹52 crore are currently either underway or proposed for the region. Furthermore, the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade recently selected Dhuri for the aspirational blocks programme, aiming to improve public service quality for local residents.
