New Delhi/Chandigarh, March 7: Household budgets faced a sudden increase on Saturday as oil marketing companies raised the price of domestic liquefied petroleum gas by Rs 60 per cylinder. The revision, which took effect on March 7, brings the cost of a 14.2-kg non-subsidised LPG cylinder to Rs 913 in the national capital.
This price adjustment follows a surge in global energy costs linked to the escalating Iran crisis. Data available on the Indian Oil Corporation website confirmed the new rates, marking a significant shift in monthly expenses for residents who do not fall under the Ujjwala scheme.
Industry analysts stated that the hike was an expected response to the volatile situation in West Asia. Officials from the oil marketing firms maintained that international supply pressures necessitated the local price correction.
The hike is expected to impact millions of households relying on non-subsidised fuel for daily cooking. While the government has previously used soft language regarding price fluctuations, the current geopolitical climate has forced a sharper increase than seen in previous months.
“The price of domestic liquefied petroleum gas has been raised by Rs 60 per cylinder,” an official statement declared. Representatives affirmed that the rates are adjusted periodically based on the moving average of international fuel prices and currency exchange rates.
