Chandigarh, April 19: The Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has recorded significant progress in its “Yudh Nashean Virudh” campaign, resulting in the arrest of approximately 60,000 drug traffickers. Aam Aadmi Party Punjab State Media In-charge and campaign spokesperson Baltej Pannu affirmed that the initiative has effectively disrupted the operations of drug networks through a coordinated effort between law enforcement and the local community.
Official data released on Saturday indicates that the Punjab Police have registered 41,850 FIRs to date. These legal actions have facilitated the seizure of substantial quantities of illegal substances, including 2,569 kg of heroin and 4,599 kg of cocaine. Other recoveries noted in the report include 748 kg of opium and over 35,000 kg of poppy husk, alongside quantities of smack and cannabis.
The coordination between the government and the public has broken the backbone of drug traffickers, Pannu declared during the briefing in Chandigarh. He maintained that the state is moving rapidly toward becoming drug-free due to the active participation of citizens.
A central component of this success involves the Village Defence Committees and a specialized mobile application designed for the campaign. Pannu noted that the app has achieved a success rate of more than 80 percent, primarily due to the volume of actionable information provided by residents.
The large number of FIRs being registered and recoveries being made today are primarily possible due to the accurate information provided by the public and their support, Pannu stated. He asserted that these developments represent a decisive victory in the ongoing mission to establish a prosperous “Rangla Punjab.”
