Sangrur, March 11 — As part of its Yudh Nasheyan Virudh (War Against Drugs) campaign, the Punjab government on Tuesday demolished an illegal structure linked to alleged drug dealer Budh Singh Budha on Stadium Road in Sunam town.

This marks the first such demolition in Sangrur, the home district of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, who on February 28 set a 90-day deadline to combat Punjab’s drug menace. Since then, authorities have carried out more than 20 demolitions across various districts.

The action followed complaints that the structure—on land owned by the local market committee—was being used for criminal activities, including drug trafficking.

“We had reports of this property being misused as a drug-selling hub and for other unlawful activities,” said Sangrur Senior Superintendent of Police Sartaj Singh Chahal.

“Strict measures will continue against those involved in such illegal operations.”

Budha has six cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and one under the Excise Act, with his criminal record dating back to 2010.

A day earlier, authorities razed the property of a woman and her daughter accused of illicit drug trade near the Barnala bus stand.
