DSP’s Son Dies in Highway Crash Near Bhawanigarh

SANGRUR, July 13—At late Friday night, Ekamveer Singh, the only son of DSP City-1 Patiala Satnam Singh, lost his life after the car he was travelling in overturned on the Bathinda-Chandigarh National Highway near Phagguwal village in Sangrur district. His friend Harjot Singh, who was accompanying him, sustained serious injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Patiala.

According to officials, the accident occurred around 1:30 am when the two were returning to Patiala from Sangrur after attending a function. The car reportedly lost balance and flipped over on a bridge after one of its tires burst.

Bhawanigarh SHO confirmed the details. “The vehicle lost control and overturned. Ekamveer Singh died on the spot, while his friend Harjot Singh was seriously injured and referred for advanced treatment,” he said.

Passers-by rushed to the scene after hearing Harjot’s cries for help. With their assistance, the police control room was informed and both victims were extracted from the wreckage and taken to the local Community Health Centre (CHC). Doctors at the CHC declared Ekamveer dead on arrival, while Harjot was referred to Rajindra Hospital and later moved to a private hospital due to the severity of his condition.

The accident caused a temporary disruption of traffic on the highway, which police personnel managed to clear by morning.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the police community in Patiala, with colleagues and local residents mourning the untimely death of the young man.
