Ludhiana, April 12: Koom Kalan police have registered a case against two individuals accused of defrauding a local man of ₹3 lakh under the guise of sending him to Australia. The accused—Amandeep Kaur of Karura Khurd village and Sunny Mehta of New Sukhdev Nagar, Bhamaia Road, Ludhiana—are currently on the run, police said.
According to the complaint filed by Paramjit Singh, a resident of Uplan village, he approached the duo with hopes of settling abroad. Claiming to be immigration agents, they allegedly promised to facilitate his travel to Australia for a total sum of ₹24 lakh. Singh transferred an initial amount of ₹3 lakh through a bank transaction, with the agreement that the balance would be paid upon his arrival in Australia.
However, Singh said he was first sent to Malaysia and later rerouted to Indonesia, where the accused began pressuring him to pay the remaining amount. “The deal clearly stated that I would pay the full amount only after reaching Australia,” Singh told police.
He further alleged that the accused also took possession of his family’s car as part of the arrangement. Despite this, he was never sent to Australia and had to return from Indonesia empty-handed. While the car was later recovered, the ₹3 lakh has not been refunded.
Head Constable Jasvir Singh, who is investigating the case, confirmed that an FIR has been registered. “A case has been lodged under Sections 318(4) [cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property], 61(2) [criminal conspiracy] of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and Section 24 of the Immigration Act,” he said. “Efforts are underway to trace and arrest the accused.”
