New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned cricketer-turned-politician Mohammed Azharuddin as part of a money laundering investigation linked to his time as president of the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA).
Sources indicate that the Congress leader has requested additional time to appear before the agency.
The ED is investigating alleged financial irregularities in the HCA under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), following searches conducted in November of last year.
This PMLA case stems from three First Information Reports (FIRs) and chargesheets filed by the Telangana anti-corruption bureau (ACB), which has accused individuals of misappropriating funds amounting to Rs 20 crore, according to PTI reports.
