UDHAMPUR, India, Dec 15 — An encounter broke out between terrorists and security forces on Monday in the Majalta area of Udhampur district, officials said.
The gunfight began after joint teams of the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and paramilitary forces launched a cordon-and-search operation in the Soan–Martha area of Majalta tehsil based on specific inputs.
“As the security forces intensified the search operation, the hiding terrorists opened fire, which was retaliated to, triggering an encounter,” an official said.
Intermittent firing was continuing at the time of filing this report, the official added.
Additional security personnel have been rushed to the area, and all possible escape routes have been sealed to prevent the terrorists from fleeing.
