Mumbai/Chandigarh, December 4, 2024 – The suspense over Maharashtra’s Chief Minister ended today as Devendra Fadnavis was elected BJP legislative party leader, confirming his role as the new Chief Minister with Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar will be serving as Deputy Chief Ministers.
In a BJP legislative meeting, Maharashtra BJP President Chandrasekhar Bawankule praised Fadnavis for leading the party to victory and driving the state’s development. Chandrakant Patil and Sudhir Mungantiwar formally proposed Fadnavis’s name, which received unanimous support.
Addressing the party after his election, Fadnavis expressed gratitude to Shinde and Pawar, pledging to uphold Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision and emphasizing unity as the key to progress. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman hailed the decision as “unanimous and pleasant.”
Preparations are underway for the swearing-in ceremony scheduled for Thursday at Azad Maidan in Mumbai. The event is expected to host Prime Minister Modi, 19 Chief Ministers and Deputy Chief Ministers, Union Ministers, 2,000 VIPs, and 40,000 workers.
The announcement follows the November 20 Maharashtra assembly elections, where the ‘Mahayuti’ alliance secured a sweeping victory with 230 of 288 seats. BJP claimed 132 seats, Shinde’s Shiv Sena 57, and Ajit Pawar’s NCP 41.
