Farmers Injured As Haryana Police Use Tear Gas

Shambu Border, 14 December 2024: Haryana security personnel deployed tear gas and water cannons on Saturday to prevent protesting farmers from advancing toward Delhi at the Shambhu border.

The confrontation occurred as a group of 101 farmers resumed their march from the Shambhu protest site at the Punjab-Haryana border around noon. The group reached the barricades set up by security forces, prompting the intervention.

This marked the third attempt by farmers to march to the national capital, following earlier efforts on December 6 and 8, which were also blocked by Haryana authorities.

To curb further gatherings, Ambala’s District Commissioner has invoked Section 163 of the BNSS (formerly Section 144 of CrPC), restricting large assemblies.
