Shambu/Kanuri, 28 January 2025: The Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM) and Samyukta Kisan Union (SKM non-political) announced Kisan Mahapanchayats at Khanauri and Shambhu protest sites on February 12 and 13, respectively, marking one year of their ongoing agitation, referred to as ‘Kisan Andolan 2.0.’
Farmers have camped at the border points in Khanauri and Shambhu since February 13 last year, after being stopped by security forces from marching to Delhi to demand a legal guarantee for Minimum Support Prices (MSP).
Farmer leader Kaka Singh Kotra mentioned that the mahapanchayats would demonstrate the unions’ unity and strength ahead of their February 14 meeting with the Union government in Chandigarh.
Kotra noted efforts to mobilize farmers in villages across Punjab and Haryana to ensure high participation at the gatherings. Thousands are expected to attend the events at both protest sites.
The events are also set to feature a key address by Jagjit Singh Dallewal, whose fast-unto-death has now entered its 63rd day.
“Dallewal wishes to meet the farmers. We will request him to speak at the Khanauri mahapanchayat as it will allow him to present his views strongly in the government meeting,” Kotra said.
