Chandigarh, November 26: Scores of farmers gathered at Dussehra Ground in Sector 43 on Wednesday to mark the fifth anniversary of the Dilli Chalo march against the three farm laws of 2020, now repealed.
The rally, organised by the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), drew tractor-trailers and supporters from across the region. “We are here to remember our struggle and the unity of farmers,” said an SKM representative addressing the crowd.
Authorities deployed about 3,000 Chandigarh Police personnel, including at Panjab University in Sector 14, where the Punjab Bachao Morcha is protesting delays in holding senate elections. “Our focus is on ensuring smooth movement and safety for everyone,” a senior police officer said.
All inter-city borders with Mohali remained open, while traffic diversions around Sector 43 were implemented to prevent congestion. The UT administration had allowed the rally for three hours from noon.
The heightened security follows earlier disruptions, including the November 10 gridlock linked to PU senate election protests. Commuters were advised to take alternate routes to avoid delays.
