Farmers to Hold Nationwide Tractor Marches on Republic Day

by The_unmuteenglish

Kanauri, 13 January 2025: The United Kisan Morcha (SKM) announced tractor marches and vehicle parades at district and sub-division levels across the country on January 26, Republic Day, urging farmers to raise their demands for legal backing of Minimum Support Price (MSP) and other issues.

SKM’s move comes amidst the worsening health of farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who has been on a hunger strike for 48 days at the Khanauri border on the Punjab-Haryana border.

SKM leaders criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “insensitive” approach, alleging the government prioritizes corporate interests over farmers’ welfare.

They also announced burning copies of the National Policy on Agricultural Marketing (NPFAM) during state-level protests. A meeting of SKM and other farmer organizations has been rescheduled to January 13 in light of Dallewal’s condition.

Key farmer demands include:

A legal guarantee on MSP.
Withdrawal of NPFAM.

Implementation of loan waivers and the Land Acquisition Act (LARR 2013).

Opposition to electricity privatization and installation of smart meters.

SKM urged nationwide participation in the Republic Day protests to voice their grievances against government policies.
