FEROZEPUR, Nov. 20 — Police in Ferozepur arrested the prime suspect in the murder of Naveen Arora, son of a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leader, following a dramatic early-morning shootout on Thursday. The 26-year-old victim was shot dead Saturday evening, sparking a high-profile investigation.
Ferozepur SSP Bhupinder Singh said the police had received a tip-off regarding the movements of the main accused, Gursimran Singh, also known as Jatin Kali, near Sodhiwala in Arif Ke village. Acting promptly, police teams cordoned off the area and set up checkpoints.
“A speeding motorcycle was signalled to stop at a naka near Arif Ke, but the rider tried to escape. Police teams pursued him immediately,” SSP Singh said. During the chase, Gursimran opened fire, striking the front windscreen of a police Bolero vehicle and narrowly missing the driver. Police returned fire, hitting the suspect in the leg. He fell and was taken into custody before being shifted to Civil Hospital for treatment.
Authorities said the accused fired a .32 bore pistol, which is being examined to determine whether it matches the firearm used in Naveen Arora’s killing.
Earlier, police had arrested two co-conspirators, Harsh and Kanav, on Monday. The identity of another suspect has been withheld to protect the integrity of the investigation, while a fifth accused, identified as Badal, remains at large.
“The investigation is ongoing, and we are probing the motive behind this murder,” SSP Singh noted.
The arrest marks a significant development in a case that had sent shockwaves through the district, given the victim’s family background and the violent nature of the crime.
