Chandigarh, Aug. 13: Chandigarh Police have arrested five people for allegedly stealing high-value injections worth around ₹90 lakh from the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER). The arrests were made within the PGI premises after the hospital’s security staff detected the theft.

Police said the accused were found in possession of a rare injection valued at several lakhs, which has been recovered. “During preliminary interrogation, several startling facts have emerged, and we suspect more individuals could be linked to the theft,” a police source said.

Investigators have also seized a Punjab-registered vehicle allegedly used in the crime and are probing its role in transporting the stolen drugs.

The incident has triggered concerns over PGIMER’s security protocols, particularly in safeguarding expensive and rare medical supplies. Officials from the institute are expected to release an official statement with further details soon.
