Chandigarh, August 20: Former Indian fast bowler Manpreet Singh Gony and international gold medallist athlete Kunar formally joined the Aam Aadmi Party on Wednesday. Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann welcomed both athletes into the party fold in Chandigarh, presenting them with ceremonial siropas in the presence of Cabinet Minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian.

Addressing the media, state leadership stated that the athletes’ background will help guide local sports programs and engage young people across the state.

“The support of such youth, who have made Punjab proud on the sports fields, will give further strength to our campaign to create ‘Rangla Punjab’,” Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann declared. “Their experience will be of great help in inspiring the youth towards sports.”

The inductees cited current public policies and state sports initiatives as their motivation for entering public life.

“We are highly impressed by the policies of the Punjab Government led by CM Bhagwant Singh Mann and the work being undertaken for the development of the state,” Gony and Kunar affirmed. “We will work with complete sincerity for strengthening the party and for the welfare of Punjab.”

Party officials noted that adding prominent sports figures supports their broader efforts to connect with young voters and expand athletic engagement across the region.
