Amritsar, October 29: The Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport (SGRDJI) in Amritsar is set for one of its busiest international travel seasons yet, as four major Asian airlines ramp up operations for the Winter 2025–26 schedule.
From November 2025 to March 2026, Malaysia Airlines, AirAsia, Scoot, and Thai Lion Air will collectively boost their weekly flights from 36 to 40, offering nearly 9,300 seats per week to key hubs — Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, and Bangkok.
The expansion marks a significant step for Amritsar, long seen as a gateway for travellers from northern India. With the added capacity, passengers can now fly directly to Southeast Asia and connect seamlessly to destinations such as Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam, Indonesia, Japan, and Hong Kong — along with onward flights to Australia and New Zealand.
“The growing network from Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, and Bangkok highlights Amritsar’s increasing importance for travellers from Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, and Haryana,” said Sameep Singh Gumtala, global convener of the FlyAmritsar Initiative.
Malaysia Airlines will retain 14 weekly flights on the Kuala Lumpur–Amritsar route. The airline recently announced new international additions, including Brisbane from November 25, and extra services to Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, Adelaide, and Auckland. Through its Qantas partnership, passengers will have access to all major Australian cities.
AirAsia, Malaysia’s leading low-cost carrier, is increasing its Kuala Lumpur–Amritsar frequency from six to eight flights weekly, giving travellers more flexibility and affordability. The carrier’s regional network and long-haul arm, AirAsia X, link passengers to Australia and across Asia, including Melbourne, Sydney, and Perth.
On the Singapore route, Scoot, the low-cost arm of Singapore Airlines, will operate 10 weekly Boeing 787 Dreamliner flights. Through its interline partnership with Singapore Airlines, Scoot offers one-stop access to Australia, New Zealand, and North America, including Brisbane, Adelaide, Auckland, Vancouver, and Calgary.
Meanwhile, Thai Lion Air will expand its Bangkok (Don Mueang)–Amritsar service from six to eight flights weekly, ensuring quick four-hour connectivity to Thailand. From Bangkok, travellers can continue to popular destinations like Phuket, Krabi, Bali, and Chiang Mai, as well as to regional business hubs such as Guangzhou, Shanghai, and Hong Kong.
Aviation observers say the winter schedule could further position Amritsar as a major northern hub for international travel, reducing reliance on Delhi for long-haul connections.
