MOHALI, Nov 9– The Balongi police have arrested four men accused of robbing a private firm employee at gun and knife point near Chhapar Chiri in the early hours of November 1.
According to police, the incident occurred around 3:55 a.m. when the victim, identified as Aniket Chhabra, was returning to his village on his friend’s motorcycle. As he slowed down near the roadside, three men allegedly stopped him, threw him off the vehicle, and assaulted him. The attackers then threatened him with weapons and fled with his iPhone 12.
“After the complaint was lodged, we began tracing the suspects through technical surveillance and local inputs,” said SHO Kulwant Singh, adding that the accused were caught following a coordinated operation.
Those arrested have been identified as Sandeep, a resident of Haryana; Vinod Kumar from Kaithal; Anmol Deep of Balongi; and Amrinder Singh from Sector 50, Chandigarh.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Karan Sandhu said preliminary investigation revealed that all four had previously worked as helpers on film shooting sets. “Two of them already have criminal cases registered against them,” he mentioned.
During the arrests, police recovered a country-made pistol and the motorcycle used in the crime. A case has been registered under Sections 126(2), 351(2), 310(2) (related to dacoity), and 309(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with relevant provisions of the Arms Act.
ASI Lakhbir Singh led the police team in the operation. “We acted swiftly once the suspects were traced, ensuring recovery of the weapon and vehicle,” he noted. Police said the accused are being interrogated further to determine their involvement in other similar incidents in the area.
