Amritsar, Feb 4: The Punjab Police Counter Intelligence wing arrested four residents of village Daoke after intercepting a 5 kg heroin consignment on the Amritsar-Attari bypass road. The operation dismantled a cross-border smuggling network allegedly utilizing unmanned aerial vehicles to transport narcotics into Indian territory.

Officers identified the apprehended individuals as Sukhchain Singh alias Mani, Navdeep Singh, Sukhpal Singh, and Akashdeep Singh. During the intercept, security forces also impounded two motorcycles used by the suspects to move the illegal cargo.

“The operation was carried out based on specific intelligence inputs,” DGP Punjab Gaurav Yadav said. He noted that preliminary investigations show the group maintained direct contact with a smuggler based in Pakistan who orchestrated drone drops near the border fence.

The CI team acted on reports that Sukhchain Singh was managing a local distribution network and had recently secured a fresh shipment. The suspects were reportedly en route to deliver the drugs near the Kala Ghanupur area when they were stopped at a police checkpoint.

“Further investigations are underway to establish both forward and backward linkages of the smuggling network,” the DGP said, adding that efforts continue to identify other associates involved in the racket.
