Chandigarh, Sept. 5 — To ensure uninterrupted fuel and cooking gas supply amid ongoing floods, the Punjab Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department has released reserves of 33,000 litres of petrol, 46,500 litres of diesel, and 1,320 LPG cylinders across the state.
Food and Civil Supplies Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak said the allocation was made on a per-pump and per-agency basis to help meet emergency needs in all districts. “The state government is fully committed to render all assistance to people during this crisis,” he said.
According to the department, Amritsar district received the largest allocation of 4,000 litres of petrol and 4,000 litres of diesel per petrol pump, along with 50 gas cylinders per agency. Patiala, Rupnagar, SAS Nagar, SBS Nagar, Pathankot and Gurdaspur also received higher quantities ranging from 2,000–3,000 litres of petrol and 2,000–3,000 litres of diesel per pump, with additional LPG reserves.
Other districts, including Barnala, Bathinda, Faridkot, Ferozepur, Fazilka, Hoshiarpur, Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Ludhiana, Malerkotla, Mansa, Moga, Muktsar Sahib, Sangrur and Tarn Taran, were allotted between 500 and 3,000 litres of petrol and 1,000 to 4,000 litres of diesel, along with gas cylinders on a per-agency basis.
The minister noted that these reserves are intended to keep fuel pumps and gas agencies functional during the floods, ensuring residents are not left without essential supplies.
