NEW DELHI, AUGUST 14: In a major development for national anti-narcotics enforcement, central security agencies secured the custody of fugitive operator Virender Singh Basoya following his transfer from the United Arab Emirates. Officers from the Narcotics Control Bureau took Basoya into custody at Indira Gandhi International Airport early Friday morning after months of close coordination between Indian authorities and international partners.
The resident of Sarojini Nagar in Delhi had been apprehended in the United Arab Emirates in June 2026 pursuant to an INTERPOL Red Notice issued at the request of Indian law enforcement.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah declared that the return of the fugitive from abroad marks a significant milestone in the national zero-tolerance policy against narcotics networks. He maintained that central law enforcement agencies have demonstrated that individuals managing illegal drug trade cannot evade legal accountability regardless of overseas location.
The Home Minister affirmed that authorities are continuously tracking entities operating from abroad to dismantle entire trafficking networks through a comprehensive investigative approach.
Ministry of Home Affairs officials stated that the successful operation relied on sustained diplomatic and law enforcement coordination with UAE authorities. The Ministry noted that the central anti-drug agency applied a thorough top-to-bottom and bottom-to-top strategy to trace the suspect’s financial and logistical connections.
The custody transfer paves the way for extended legal proceedings and interrogation in New Delhi regarding multi-jurisdictional narcotics cases.
NCB officials maintained that intelligence-led operations targeting international supply chains will continue to receive full institutional support and resources.
