State health officials confirmed thirty-nine validated cases across twelve districts in Gujarat and three neighboring districts in Rajasthan, with all reported infections impacting children under fifteen years of age. Despite screening thousands of potential vectors since the first cases emerged on June 30, researchers have not yet detected the pathogen in collected sandfly, mosquito, or tick samples.
Medical personnel noted that the viral infection primarily manifests as Acute Encephalitis Syndrome, presenting high risks of rapid neurological progression in young patients.
Union Health Ministry representatives maintained that identifying the exact vector responsible for the current transmission remains premature while laboratory analyses are ongoing. Officials affirmed that scientific teams are expanding their sampling scope to ensure comprehensive surveillance across affected zones.
Field teams extended investigations beyond traditional insect vectors to include domestic livestock that could act as natural reservoirs. Researchers collected around seventy blood samples alongside milk specimens from cattle, buffaloes, and goats to test for viral persistence or antibodies.
Epidemiologists noted that cases have appeared in regions such as Saurashtra, where typical sandfly populations are significantly lower than in eastern district belts. Scientific experts affirmed that multi-species transmission involving different mosquito strains, ticks, or mites remains under evaluation.
Public health specialists declared that year-round vector surveillance is essential to understanding seasonal transmission dynamics and identifying viral hideouts between sporadic outbreaks.
