RAEBARELI, MAY 20: Congress MP Rahul Gandhi directed sharp criticism toward Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday, using a recent diplomatic exchange in Europe to highlight growing domestic financial anxieties.

Speaking to constituents during an official visit to Raebareli, the Leader of the Opposition described the government’s approach as out of touch with the mounting hardships faced by ordinary citizens. His remarks followed the widespread circulation of a social media video in which Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni thanked the Indian premier for a gift of Melody toffees during his state visit to Rome, a gesture referencing an ongoing digital commentary trend.

“Farmers, youth, women, laborers, and small traders are all in tears – the PM is laughing and making reels, while the BJP folks are clapping along,” Gandhi declared. “This isn’t leadership, it’s a farce.”

The Congress leader maintained that the administration is attempting to project an image of global influence while deliberately ignoring structural economic challenges at home. He pointed out that the Prime Minister initiated a multi-nation international itinerary immediately after federal authorities issued public advisories requesting citizens to curb fuel use, limit gold purchases, and avoid traveling abroad to conserve national reserves.

According to Gandhi, these strict domestic guidelines are early indicators of a sharp inflationary spike. He asserted that the general public would soon face escalating costs for everyday essentials, including household cooking gas, food grains, petrol, and diesel.

The opposition leader stated that while the ruling party prioritizes digital content production and symbolic international gestures, the foundational pillars of the rural economy, particularly agricultural workers dealing with rising input costs, are being left without adequate financial support.
