Zirakpur, March 22 — Mohali police shot and arrested Ludhiana-based gangster Lovish Grover during an encounter at Shiva Enclave on VIP Road, Zirakpur, on Friday night. Grover, wanted for multiple crimes, including murder and attempted murder, sustained a bullet injury to his leg during the exchange of fire.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Rural, Manpreet Singh, said the police acted on a tip-off about Grover’s hideout. “We received information that he was planning a major crime from a flat in Shiva Enclave. A team led by Zirakpur SHO Inspector Jaskawal Singh raided the third-floor apartment around 9:15 pm,” he mentioned.
Upon the police’s arrival, Grover briefly answered the door but attempted to shut it after recognizing the officers. He then retreated into a room and opened fire. “In retaliation, our team fired back, hitting him in the leg. He was subsequently overpowered and arrested,” Singh added.
During the search, police recovered three sophisticated weapons—a Glock pistol, a rifle, and a .39-bore pistol—along with ammunition.
Grover faces multiple criminal cases, including violations of the Arms Act. Police said further investigation is underway.
Meanwhile, a similar encounter occurred on March 5, when gangster Navjot Singh, a close associate of Lucky Patial, was injured in a shootout with the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) in New Chandigarh. Singh, who was hiding in Eco City-1, fired at the police when asked to surrender, prompting retaliatory fire that left him with a leg injury.
