CHANDIGARH, APRIL 8 — Punjab Police have accelerated a massive crackdown on organized crime under the “Gangstran Te Vaar” initiative, recovering a significant cache of military-grade weaponry and advanced technology. Official reports confirmed on Wednesday that the operation has led to the seizure of 10 drones, hand grenades, and hundreds of firearms as part of a state-wide effort to dismantle criminal networks.
The enforcement drive, backed by the Bhagwant Mann administration, resulted in 14,894 arrests between January and mid-March. Officials stated that those taken into custody include 14,561 wanted criminals and over 300 associates linked to various gangster syndicates.
“This campaign represents a decisive shift from reactive policing to a proactive and systemic dismantling of organized crime ecosystems,” a senior police official affirmed.
The scale of the recovery illustrates the sophisticated nature of the targeted groups. Along with 301 firearms and 921 rounds of ammunition, teams confiscated 2.5 kg of explosives and six hand grenades. The technological crackdown was equally intense, with 4,070 mobile phones and 548 vehicles seized to disrupt communication and logistics.
Authorities noted that the strategy focuses on more than just physical arrests. By confiscating ₹45.6 lakh in cash and gold, the police have begun targeting the financial channels that sustain these syndicates. Security experts maintained that the consistency of these raids is successfully weakening the nexus between local gangsters and their overseas handlers.
