Patna, 18 November 2024— A woman in Bihar is battling severe health complications after a C-section surgery at Darbhanga Medical College Hospital (DMCH) led to a shocking case of medical negligence.
Anjali Kumari, a resident of Brahmpura village in Darbhanga district, underwent the procedure on October 8 to deliver her baby boy but soon experienced intense abdominal pain.
Her condition worsened in the weeks following the surgery, prompting her family to seek help from a private practitioner.
Upon reopening her surgical stitches, the doctor discovered a large piece of gauze left inside her stomach. The incident, captured on a cellphone video, has since sparked outrage and raised concerns about surgical standards at the hospital.
The woman, still in critical condition, has been readmitted to DMCH, where she is undergoing further treatment.
“Our immediate priority is her recovery,” said the hospital superintendent, acknowledging the grave error.
“An investigation will be conducted to determine how this oversight occurred and to hold those responsible accountable,” he added.
The case has raised alarms over patient safety at the state-run hospital, with health authorities now facing mounting pressure to ensure stricter surgical protocols and accountability in medical procedures.
